Isaac really pushed me over the limit today. I walked into the living room to see him hanging onto our Christmas tree. That is right, hanging on the tree.
It is a fake tree, a hand me down from Matt's loving parents and has served us well the eight year of our marriage. I had it well protected or so I thought. It is in a corner, blocked off by one end of the couch and the other side blocked by my hope chest. There is only one small area where Adam can reach it, so I thought I did a pretty good job.
Now it looks like the tree has had a turn for the worse. The base is broken, the branches are busted, and the lights are all hanging in weird places. With two of the main supports broken on the bottom, the tree will forever have a lean. I just pray it will stay standing through the holiday.
Once I got Isaac untangled from the tree, I asked, “Why, what ever possessed you?” He answered, “I was practicing my jumping.” He was practicing his jumping and decided to jump off the couch into the tree. Who does this? Only a two year old would think up this much fun.
After sending him off to his room, I pulled the tree out of its corner and tried to fix it with all the ornaments and decorations still on it. It was a mess. After many mumblings under my breath, I swore I was going to call off Christmas. I threw some stuff: broken branches, broken ornaments, my pulled out hair. Than with Caleb’s help (in tears begging me not to call off Christmas, that he would be super good to make up for Isaac), I got the tree back in the corner with just a slight lean to the left.

Oh dear.
Well at least now your tree has character and is probably quite unique!
That's too bad though; good artificial trees are pricey! Did you lose any priceless ornaments?
OH! That is a sad story! Our tree this year looks really funny because we didn't put any at the bottom... so I think I would prefer the lean over this :)
No priceless ornaments were broken, I have learned to save the good ones until the boys are older.
That is a good, but sad story. Good because I think all moms can laugh about it because they realize they are not the only ones that want to pull their hair out around the holidays sometimes. Sad because I am sorry your tree now has a tilt. We still have our $20 fake Walmart tree that we had during school. We thought about buying a real tree this year, but figured it would be easier to just keep the old tree. The kids like to put all of their old ornaments on, so it is not like my tree has any rhyme or reason to it, other than the kids love it.
Kristin, I just have to say that I re-read this again and am just laughing. I'm sorry, I know it's sad, but I am just imaging Isaac hanging on the tree. Oh boy...
Oh Kristin, I love how your put this experience into words!!! That is so funny. Sounds like your Jumping Isaac is a lot like my Jumping Jimmy.
Throwing stuff always makes me feel better.
Maybe jumping makes him feel better?
Has Isaac watched "Elf" recently? That could be where he got the idea to jump into the tree from. I'm laughing over here because it didn't happen to me. Love those boys!
I can't stop laughing too. I love that scene in Elf. We just found out we have our 5th broken bone today. I love the story. It probably wasn't funny when it happened, but look at it this way, you have a great blog entry.
Oh Isaac, Isaac, Isaac. Next he'll be climbing up the chimney!
